Sylvia & Co Salon Services Web Design

Project Description

This PlanetCom web design project involved the complete redesign of the website for Sylvia & Co Salon Services, an Aveda Lifestyle Salon in Sherwood Park. My life was made a lot easier by being able to transfer the bulk of the content from their old site as well as having access to beautiful and professional photos and collateral directly from Aveda, which freed me up to put all my effort into the layout, design and functionality of the site itself.

The client wanted to focus quite intently on both their affiliation with Aveda and their avid environmental activism. The photos do a good job of making the Aveda connection pop out without plastering the site with their logo or an overabundance of ads, and the fresh green highlight colour chosen for the site helps drive the environmental emphasis home in a clean and elegant way.

The design and functionality take full advantage of the Wordpress CMS including modern features such as a fully responsive layout, fluid masonry style Blog page with accompanying widget, a newsletter sign up form, big bold buttons, and full-width photo and content bands that maximize site real estate and look great doing it!

There's No Progress Without Process

Here is what one of the preliminary homepage designs looked like in the wireframing stage. The layout of this design would incorporate large, high resolution, full-width photos as background elements with the ever-popular parallax effect applied.

Here is the same homepage design in colour mockup form. You can now fully appreciate the effect the high quality photos would give as a fully immersive user experience. An overlay was necessary in order for the text to stand out, giving the site a darker feel, which was not quite the direction the client wanted to go in the end.

This is a screenshot of another preliminary site design wireframe, again of what a potential homepage could have looked like.

Here is the second homepage design fully fleshed out in mockup form. This one was aiming for a more regal, classy, and almost royal look with the deep, rich purple highlight colour and fanciful imagery.

This is the initial wireframe layout for the interior page that would go along with the previous homepage design. A clean 2 column layout is used to display the main content in a balanced way while minimizing the line length of the text.

Here is the same interior About Us page with added imagery and colour. The layout worked really well with some of the elements even making it into the final design including the service widgets near the bottom and the overall footer design.
